In the old warehouse on Strandgade 93 in what used to be Noma, Restaurant Barr is now open for business. Head chef is Thorsten Schmidt – former owner and chef of Malling & Schmidt in Aarhus – and he and René Redzepi have cooperated on the concept.
Barr serves classic Danish dishes but not in a classic way. Thorsten’s amazing technical abilities allows him to tune the meatballs or the schnitzel to new, amazing heights. It’s very, very sharp and very very delicious. It’s all the yummy you expect from food your granny used to make, but she would never ever have been able to cook in this way and with the quality of ingredients that Schmidt works with. Service is top-notch (after all, this is a Noma spin-off and those guys know how to run the floor), and Barr lives up to it’s name with 20 world class beers on tap.
