Michelin *

Right at the old harbour lies the old terminal building, from where the hydrofoils used to leave for Sweden. For some years it housed a series of main stream restaurants, serving mediocre food for Danish celebrities and their hang arounds. But 2013 a consortium headed by the famous Danish food evangelist and business man Claus Meyer took over this wonderful location and opened no less than three restaurants and a jazz club within its charming exterior. The place is called The Standard, as is the jazz club, and the restaurants are Verandah (internationally styled Indian food – ok, but not quite up there, IMHO), Almanak (Nordic cuisine, supposed to be great value, I haven’t been myself) and…. wait for it: The absolutely stunning Studio, headed by former Noma R&D chef Torsten  Vildgaard. Now – The Standard being a concept place I didn’t really  expect Torsten to be given a carte blanche, being able to show what he can really do in a kitchen (which is a lot). I was wrong: Studio got its Michelin star within its first year, and the new The White Guide puts Studio on the top shelf, calling it International Master Class. The food is super elegant, innovative, flawless and with a clear Noma heritage, as Torsten was the chef behind many of Noma’s signature dishes.
